Sophie paints from her seafront studio in Brighton - her paintings a fusion of colour, texture & the landscape that inspires her on her travels. From the natural formations of the Pitons in the Caribbean, to harbours in Greece or a beach hut in England. She has recently returned from two months travelling in Chile and Argentina where she was dazzled by the stunning landscapes, taking her on a journey through deserts and glaciers to ramshackle seaside towns and vibrant cities with their colourful markets.
Travel has continually influenced Sophies work and is explored through her kaleido-scopic paintings. Full of layers with bold colour, mark making and energy her paintings can seem like they are literally bursting at the seams. Her work originates in observation but via the painting process transcends into abstraction as she reinvents her idea of the landscape onto canvas.
Using acrylic paint allows her to build up these layers in quick succesion and enables continual experimentation with form and colour - Sophie’s passions.
“I aim to create playful and atmospheric paintings that capture the essence of form, movement and the feeling of a time and place.”
