In 2000 Lara formed Fourwalls - a promotion vehicle for visual artists working in the Brighton area - and her own art work took a back seat for a while. Moving to a house with a garden offering good light and soil inspired her to put the paint brushes to use again.
Finding inspiration in textiles, floral illustrations and old masters’ still life painting made it a natural progression to document the plants, flowers and fruit which she has both inherited and established in her garden.
“Apart from watering and a little care my garden just gets on with it. It’s produce are all little miracles which I paint in order to record their existence. I enjoy the whole process - planting, nurturing, watching them grow and then making them the subject of their own story."

More recently Lara has been working on a series of landscape paintings inspired by road trips taken over recent summers. With a focus on light and composition the paintings are an extension of her studio-based still lives.
